A passenger traveling on the Hyderabad–Hazrat Nizamuddin Dakshin Express has alleged that he found a cockroach in the biryani he purchased from a vendor while the train was halted at Nagpur Railway Station.
The incident reportedly occurred around 10:10 am on Saturday aboard Train No. 12721 in coach B2, seat number 07. According to the complaint, a vendor boarded the coach at platform number 1 and sold vegetarian biryani for ₹70. After the transaction, the vendor disembarked before the train resumed its journey.
Moments after consuming a few bites, the passenger claimed to have spotted a cockroach in the food. Alarmed by the discovery, he informed the onboard staff and later submitted a written complaint. However, the passenger acknowledged that he could not identify the vendor, nor could he recall any details such as the uniform or clothing. He also lacked any photo or video evidence of the incident.
A retired railway official commented that the case once again raises concerns over food hygiene and safety standards on trains and at railway stations.
Railway authorities have confirmed that an investigation has been initiated, though the absence of identifiable information about the vendor poses a challenge. Officials assured that efforts would be made to trace the individual responsible and prevent such incidents in the future.
