Wins Best Respondent Memorial and Reaches Semi-Finals
A team from MaharashtraNational Law University, Nagpur has brought international recognition to the institution by delivering an outstanding performance at the 8th H.V. Perera QC Memorial International Moot (also known as the Victor’s Moot). It is Sri Lanka’s premier International Commercial Arbitration Moot held online and organized by The Moot Society of Sri Lanka Law College in association with leading legal and arbitral institutions such as the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.
The team comprising Ioli Shukla (Batch of 2025, B.A. LL.B), Alifiya Olia (5th Year, B.A. LL.B Hons.), Manthan Patel (4th Year, B.A. LL.B Hons. in Justicing and Adjudication) and Anubhuti Tiwari (4th Year, B.B.A. LL.B Hons.), emerged as Semi-Finalists, ranking third on the basis of their overall team score. Notably, they were also given the award for the Best Memorandum for Respondent and were the only Indian team to qualify to the Top 6, making this feat even more significant.
The Victor’s Moot is a reputed international moot in the field of International Commercial Arbitration, attracting participation from premier law schools across Asia, Europe and Africa. The moot problem was based on a complex cross-border commercial dispute, involving substantive issues concerning frequency spectrum transfer, regulatory control, the relevance of pre-arbitration mechanisms and contractual breach.
The team from NLU Nagpur was selected for this prestigious moot after a thorough review of their individual achievements and the achievements of NLU Nagpur, by the organisers. After which the team submitted their written memorials on the 7th of June. They represented India at the international level along with several other teams, where the competition featured multiple preliminary rounds judged by prominent arbitrators, followed by Semi-Finals, and the Grand Final.
Through consistent excellence in both written submissions and oral advocacy, the team advanced through the rounds, eventually reaching the Semi-Finals and securing the third-highest team points overall.
This remarkable achievement reflects the dedication, academic excellence, and mooting culture nurtured at Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur. The university takes immense pride in the team’s performance and extends heartfelt congratulations to Ioli, Alifiya, Manthan, and Anubhuti for representing the institution and the country with such distinction on the international stage.
