The Nagpur Gramin Bar Association, representing permit room and bar owners, along with several other bar associations, has extended full support to the statewide bandh scheduled for July 14. The bandh has been called by the Indian Hotel and Restaurant Association (AHAR) to protest the recent increase in Value Added Tax (VAT) and other levies.
Anand Singh, President of the Nagpur Gramin Bar Association, confirmed that all permit rooms and bars operating in the rural areas of the district will remain closed in solidarity with the protest.
“Our main demand is the complete withdrawal of the 10% VAT imposed on permit rooms and bars. If this tax is enforced on us, it should also be equally applied to wine shops selling similar products,” Singh stated.
