Nagpur’s Aapli Bus service just made history. On Tuesday, July 15, a staggering 1,54,728 commuters boarded the city buses — the highest single-day ridership ever recorded.
This public transport leap also translated into big money: ₹28.88 lakh in fare revenue, with 29% of it through digital payments — a strong vote for Nagpur’s digital transit shift. UPI alone accounted for 15%, showing a sharp rise in tech-savvy travel choices.
NMC Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari hailed it a “milestone for public mobility,” congratulating the transport team. A day later, he inspected a new passenger counting system, currently active in 30 buses, and directed it be expanded citywide.
Beyond daily commuters, students are getting on board in large numbers. With over 1,000 student passes already issued under the new campus outreach campaign, colleges like JD Engineering and St. Ann’s have jumped in. Passes offer up to 72% discounts, making eco-friendly travel affordable.
