In a continued effort to ensure clean roads and smooth traffic flow, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has taken action against 7,118 individuals for obstructing public roads by setting up tents, pandals, and decorative arches without permission. These actions, recorded between January 1 and June 30, 2025, resulted in the recovery of fines amounting to ₹79,23,650.
The drive is part of the NMC’s “Clean, Beautiful, and Healthy Nagpur” campaign and is being implemented under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari. The campaign is being spearheaded by Additional Commissioners Vasumana Pant, Vaishnavi B., and Ajay Charathankar.
The nuisance detection squad has been actively monitoring different zones of the city to prevent roadblocks that hamper public movement. Offenders were found to have erected temporary structures for personal or public events, disrupting traffic and violating municipal regulations.
The highest number of violations was reported in the Dharampeth Zone, where 1,212 cases were recorded and fines totaling ₹17.89 lakh were collected. The Hanuman Nagar Zone followed with 1,174 cases and fines of ₹11.59 lakh, while the Nehru Nagar Zone recorded 563 cases, collecting ₹8.89 lakh in penalties.
Officials said the drive is also aimed at creating public awareness under the broader Swachh Nagpur campaign. Citizens are encouraged to report such nuisances, and timely action is being ensured to maintain public order and cleanliness.
