In a bid to reach informal sector workers and amplify their rights, YUVA (Youth for Unity and Voluntary Action) recently conducted a series of powerful and moving nukkad nataks (street plays) at Pratap Nagar Thiya, Rani Durgavati Thiya, Rambagh and Budhwar Bazaar in Nagpur.
These performances were organised to raise awareness about YUVA’s Labour Helpline, a support service operational across Maharashtra, including in Nagpur, to address issues such as wage theft, unsafe working conditions, and workplace exploitation.

Each performance brought to life the everyday struggles of labourers—be it domestic workers, construction workers, or vendors—through relatable storytelling, humour, and gripping dialogues. The plays highlighted how the Labour Helpline can be a powerful tool for seeking justice and support.
One scene especially resonated with the crowd, where a construction worker calls the helpline after being denied wages, and through timely intervention, receives the pending amount.

“This helpline is not just a phone number. It’s a platform where workers can speak up and be heard,” said one of the performers.

Passersby, shopkeepers, and workers in the area stopped to watch, many of them noting down the helpline number and expressing gratitude for the information shared.
This awareness campaign is part of YUVA’s ongoing work to ensure dignity, justice, and rights for all workers.
