Nagpur’s master athletes delivered an impressive performance at the 38th Annual Open Championship Meet-2025, held at Mahinda Rajapaksha Stadium, Diyagama, Sri Lanka. The event was organised by the Sri Lanka Masters Athletic Association and saw participation from veteran athletes across various age categories.
All participating athletes from Nagpur secured positions within the top six of their respective events, showcasing consistent excellence.
Varsha Shelke won a bronze medal in the 4x100m relay, while Usha Kurekar finished fourth in the 1500m run and fifth in the hammer throw. Vanmala Kapse claimed a silver medal in the shot put, and Supriya Lad secured bronze in the 5 km walk. Shashi Mane finished fourth in both the 100m and 200m races and bagged fifth place in the long jump.
The Nagpur District Athletic Association (NDAA) president Helen Joseph, general secretary Sudhakar Patil, joint secretary Ishwar Deshmukh, along with Dr. Vivek Awsare, Shardha Naidu, S.K. Yadav, S. Dhabekar, Burade, and Vishaka Tamke congratulated the athletes on their remarkable achievements.
