Following The Live Nagpur’s continuous coverage on the flawed design of the Kawrapeth flyover, the issue reached the Maharashtra Assembly on Wednesday. Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Shivendrasinh Raje Bhosale admitted to the design failure and announced a ₹20 crore correction plan along with a formal probe to fix accountability.
The controversy began after The Live Nagpur highlighted public frustration over the awkward T-junction created on the newly built flyover, which was meant to ease traffic between North and East Nagpur. Instead, it became a choke point, disrupting school buses, ambulances, and daily commuters. The bizarre layout even led residents to dub the spot “Uth ke muh me jira square” — a sarcastic jab that went viral and even found its way to Google Maps.
Congress MLA Nitin Raut raised the issue through a calling attention notice, slamming PWD for ignoring earlier suggestions to build a Y-junction instead. BJP MLAs Krishna Khopde and Praveen Datke supported the demand for action against responsible officials.
Accepting the error, the PWD Minister said the flyover arms would now be widened to 21.71 and 22.55 metres to enable smoother traffic flow. He confirmed that action will be taken against officers who disregarded local inputs.
As interim divider work continues, citizens await a complete redesign — and genuine accountability
