In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Crime Branch Unit-5 of Nagpur City Police seized 106.850 kilograms of ganja (cannabis) and arrested two persons involved in its transportation. The total value of the seized contraband and associated materials stands at ₹41.58 lakh. The action took place on Thursday, July 17, along the service road near Mahalaxmi Petrol Pump, opposite Umiya Vasahat, under the jurisdiction of Pardi Police Station.
Based on a tip-off received by PSI Rajendra Taklikar, the police team conducted a raid between 4:02 pm and 8:50 pm, during which they intercepted a suspicious Eicher tempo parked by the roadside. A thorough search led to the discovery of a large quantity of ganja hidden beneath vegetable crates.
The arrested accused have been identified as Taj Habib Sheikh Mohammad (27), a resident of Waki, Saoner, and Shailendra Ramlakhan Gupta (28) from Yadav Nagar, Nagpur. Police have also launched a search for three other suspects involved in the case – Mohsin alias Firoz, Chhotu, and Wangu, all of whom are currently absconding.
The items seized during the operation include ganja worth ₹26.71 lakh (calculated at ₹25,000 per kg), an Eicher company tempo (MH40BG6034) valued at ₹14 lakh, three mobile phones worth ₹26,000, two iron tools worth ₹300, and 203 vegetable crates worth ₹60,900.
Following the seizure, a case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(c), and 29, at Pardi Police Station. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Police Inspector Sandeep Buwa, in charge of Crime Branch Unit-5. Further investigation is ongoing to trace the absconding accused and unravel the larger drug supply network.
