Get ready for a water blackout, Nagpur! Starting Monday, July 21, hundreds of residential areas in West Nagpur will face a massive water supply shutdown, thanks to back-to-back repair works by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Orange City Water (OCW). Citizens are outraged — and rightfully so.
The first shutdown hits the Rifle Line water system from 10 AM to 10 PM on July 21, during which a crucial 250 mm water pipeline will be relocated near Bhole Petrol Pump (RTO Nallah) under a National Highway Authority project. This so-called “essential” work will leave areas like Ghatate Layout, Maharajbagh, Journalist Colony, MHADA Colony, and Adivasi Bhavan completely dry for the day.
But that’s just the beginning.
In a shocking display of poor planning, NMC has lined up a second 24-hour shutdown on the Pench-I LT Feeder from 10 AM on July 21 to 10 AM on July 22, to fix a 600 mm leakage at the Gorewada Water Treatment Plant. This will affect a massive chunk of West Nagpur, including Gorewada, Netaji Society, Greenfield, Raj Tower, Zingabai Takli, Babunagar, Adarsh Nagar, and over 50 other localities.
What’s worse? No backup water supply, no water tankers, no public communication — just silence from NMC.
Residents are furious. “Why can’t this be done in phases? Why punish the entire city?” asked one citizen online.
Nagpur deserves better.
This isn’t maintenance — this is mismanagement at its peak. If NMC doesn’t wake up, citizens won’t stay silent much longer.
🔴 Store water NOW. Spread the word. Demand answers. Because this Monday, Nagpur goes dry — and no one is ready.
