The strike by cab drivers affiliated with ride-hailing platforms Ola, Uber, and Rapido stretched into its second consecutive day on Saturday, causing widespread inconvenience to commuters across the city. With no signs of resolution, public frustration continued to mount.
According to industry experts, many cab drivers have been deliberately withholding basic amenities in their vehicles as a cost-cutting measure. “With declining commissions, drivers are doing everything they can to minimise expenses,” observed several city residents.
The drivers’ association reiterated its firm stance, stating that they have been raising their concerns for a long time but are now determined to persist until their demands are addressed. “This time, we will not back down. The strike will go on until we get what we deserve,” a representative asserted.
The association also warned that if authorities fail to respond promptly, the protest could escalate further in the coming days.
Meanwhile, commuters expressed frustration over declining service standards. Many reported filing complaints against errant drivers, but said their grievances went unanswered. Throughout the day, residents struggled to find cabs, with online bookings frequently showing unavailability.
The ongoing strike has led to overcrowding in city buses and a significant surge in passenger traffic on metro trains. Auto-rickshaws, too, were in high demand as citizens scrambled for alternative modes of transport.
