Finally, the state government has touched the mark of 33 core tree plantation on September 25, Wednesday afternoon. After the ambitious achievement, the officials of forest department have lauded all those who are associated with the initiative. Forest Minister Sudhir Mugantiwar also praised the forest department and said that the project became successful because of the support from the people. Mugantiwar had announced that in the three years, 50 crore trees would be planted in the state in order to implement the concept of Green Maharashtra through the forest department and through public participation.
On July 1, 2016, the minister has announced the target of two crore tree plantations on the same day. Due to the overwhelming response of the people to the campaign, 2 crore 83 thousand trees were planted in the state. In 2017, there was a resolution of four crores trees for the period of 1 to 30 July.
This year, more than five million trees were planted through this campaign. In 2018, 13 crores of trees were planted from July 1 to 30.15 crore 88 lakh plants were planted in it. This feat was recorded by the Limca Book of Records. The campaign was launched in the state on July 2 from Anandvan (Warora). The campaign will continue till September 30.
