International Space Station (ISS) astronaut Sunita Williams, who has spent 155 days in space since arriving in June, has reportedly experienced “significant” weight loss. Concerns about the 59-year-old astronaut’s health have arisen after recently released photos showed Williams appearing noticeably gaunt, with sunken cheeks and a much thinner frame.
“The pounds have melted off her, and she’s now skin and bones. So it’s a priority to help her stabilize the weight loss and hopefully reverse it,” a NASA official involved in the mission told The New York Post.
Williams and fellow astronaut Barry Wilmore were initially scheduled for an eight-day stay on the ISS. However, technical malfunctions with the Boeing Starliner have left them stranded in space, extending their mission far beyond its original timeline.
