A mix-up during the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) postgraduate homeopathy examinations on Friday resulted in first-year students receiving the wrong question paper, forcing authorities to replace it shortly after the exam began.
Students specialising in Materia Medica were mistakenly issued the question paper for Fundamentals of Clinical Medicine in Homeopathy Materia Medica, an examination that is scheduled to be held on Monday. The error delayed the examination and raised concerns over the handling and security of confidential question papers.
Confirming the incident, MUHS Controller of Examinations Dr S. S. Kadu said the mistake occurred after the incorrect question paper was uploaded into the university’s examination software.
“The moderator pushed the wrong paper through the software. As soon as we realised the same, we sent another paper of Fundamentals of Homeopathy Materia Medica within minutes. And on Monday, we will send another paper of Fundamentals of Clinical Medicine in Homeopathy Materia Medica,” he said.
According to students, the error became apparent only after the question papers were distributed inside the examination hall.
“I was surprised after reading the questions because they did not match our scheduled examination. Later, we realised that every student had received the wrong paper,” one candidate said. Another student said the examination started late as invigilators had to wait for the correct question papers to arrive. However, candidates were given additional time to compensate for the delay.
The incident has highlighted concerns over the university’s examination management system, particularly the procedures followed for uploading, verifying and distributing question papers. With multiple postgraduate homeopathy specialisations conducting separate examinations during the same period, students and faculty have called for stricter safeguards to prevent such errors in future examinations.
