Beginning the year with new learnings, city’s largest poetry community, Dark Room Poets organized a workshop on January 27, 2019. The workshop was named ‘From Page To Stage’ and it intended to teach young minds the importance of stage presentation while performing a spoken word poem. Husain Rasheed, the founder of Dark Room Poets explained how to write and edit a poem along with the use of poetic devices and the concept of Abstract Concrete. He also recited a poem, Allah ji by Shakeel Azmi depicting sorrows of a child who’s asking Allah to return his mother left the audience in tears.
Bianca Nazareth and Omkar Ghare conducted the second half of the workshop where they taught building stage confidence, maintaining body postures, voice modulation, hand movements and more. Participants enjoyed the fun activities in the middle of the workshop.
“The workshop was well executed and properly organised. It was extremely helpful for not only poets but also for those artists who perform in front of a public at large!†said Sanidh Parkhie, one of the participants. While Pawan Jha, who’s been regularly attending DRP’s event, said, “I feel I learnt a lot about stage performance and it was really fun. It was relevant for all- professionals and amateurs. The content and the method of delivery were so easy to receive. Such a great mixture of theatre and poetryâ€.
The workshop ended on a happy note as everyone was given a chance to perform their own poem by implying the knowledge they gained.
