A police constable had a narrow escape when a truck driver and the cleaner tried to kill him on the wee hours of Thursday. The incident occurred near WCL under the jurisdiction of Umrer police station. It is suspected that the truck was involved in coal smuggling and was carrying illegal stock of coal.
According to police, PSI Prashant Khobragade, police naik, Praip Thakre, police constable Yogiraj Wanjari and driver Umesh Baante while patrolling in the area saw a truck MH-31/CQ-1121 and signaled it to stop. However, the truck paying no heed to the police moved ahead. The police team then chased the truck stopped it and constable Wanjari climbed it’s the footstep. While he was checking the documents, the cleaner asked the driver to start the vehicle and move ahead. The driver then moved ahead with the vehicle. On his instructions, the cleaner pushed Wanjari from the running truck with an intention to kill him.
Wanjari, who sustained injuries, was rushed to Nagpur where he is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Both the driver and the cleaner of the truck are absconding. The Umrer police have registered an offence under sections 353, 307, 333 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code along with section 184 of Motor Vehicle Act and have launched a manhunt to nab the absconding duo.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ola and Police Inspector of Local Crime Branch Sanjay Purandare visited the hospital and enquired about Wanjari’s condition.
