Air Marshal RKS Shera, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal assumed command as the thirty fifth Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Headquarters Maintenance Command (HQMC).
He was presented a guard of honour by the Air Warriors of Maintenance Command. He addressed Field Commanders in the ongoing Commanders’ Conclave and shared his vision for the Maintenance Command.
He lauded the role of Maintenance Command in ensuring high serviceability of aircraft and systems during “Exercise Gagan Shakti†in 2018. He exhorted them to focus on quality of production of aircraft and systems and to ensure timely completion of yearly production tasks. Supply chain management should be so efficient that equipment reach at right place at right time. The IAF must continue with unflinching determination towards indigenisation and self-reliance, thereby reducing dependence on foreign vendors, he said.
Air Marshal Shera was commissioned in the Aeronautical Engineering Electronics Branch of Indian Air Force on January 5, 1981. He is a post graduate from IIT Kanpur in Electrical Engineering. He was trained in Russia on MIG-29 aircraft at the time of fleet induction in 1986. He is an alumnus of prestigious National Defence College (NDC).
Air Marshal Shera was Air Officer-in-Charge Maintenance at Air HQ before assuming the Command of HQMC. During his career of 38 years, he has held several important Command and Staff assignments.
He has a rich experience in the field of maintenance of Aircraft from ‘O’ to ‘D’ level. For his distinguished service, the Air Marshal was awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2014 and Vishisht Seva Medal in 1993 by the President of India.
He is married to Ms Jaspreet Shera and their son Harman Shera, is post graduate in information systems and is employed in Arizona, USA.
