Accusing the NDA government in Maharashtra of not fulfilling the promises made during Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the Halba community women have decided not to vote the BJP in the coming elections. The decision was taken during the women’s summit of Halba community held at Halba Community Hall, Panchpaoli.
The programme began after paying tributes to Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Chief Architect of Indian Constitution, Dr BR Ambedkar, former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, reformists, Mahatma Jyotiba Fule, Savitribai Fule and Birsa Munda.
While addressing the women summit, senior Congress leader Adv Nandatai Parate said that the BJP has made several promises during the Assembly election campaign. They assured the Halba community that measures would be taken to increase their income and improve their standard of living. Both Devendra Fadnavis and Nitin Gadkari had promised at the time of election that BJP would take initiatives to expedite progress of Halba community and also include the class in Scheduled Tribe category.
However, after coming into power, the BJP forgot this promise. Over the last four and a half years, several reminders were sent to the BJP government to fulfill the promises made during the election but in vain.
“We feel betrayed and hence we won’t vote for BJP in the coming Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections.
Kunda Raut, Anita Hedau, Manju Parate, Shankuntala Wattidhare, Prabha Deoghare, Shalu Nandanwar, Manjiri Paunikar, Nanda Hattimare, Vanita Maudekar, Malti Amre and Kalpana Adyalkar also expressed their views on the occasion.
Geeta Jalgaonkar conducted the proceedings while Manda Shende proposed the vote of thanks.
Rekha Mohadikar, Nilavati Deoghare, Pramila Wadighare, Renuka Mohadikar, Asha Chandekar, Kamal Parate, Sushma Paunikar, Rupali Mohadikar, Sarita Burde, Kalpana Mohpekar and others were present.
