Meritorious children of journalists, who scored more than 60 per cent marks in SSC and HSSC examinations, were felicitated by Tilak Patrakar Bhavan Trust (TPBT). Senior BJP leader Adv Nishant Gandhi was the chief guest.
The meritorious students including Dhwanika Hitesh Limbachiya, Piyusha Dilip Dupare, Mahi Mahesh Updeo, Kushal Asaram Gujar, Vasundhara Vasant Sane and Kalyani Pradhan were awarded cash prizes in the memory of late Satyanarayan Dubey and Vivek Dubey at the hands of Pravina Kaushik, Shikha Maitra Janet Mary Rao, Shraddha Borkar and Rajeshwar Mishra.
Award winning journalists Prabhakar Dupare, Barkha Mathur (Times of India), Praveen Lonkar (Maharashtra Times) and photo journalist Shekhar Soni were also felicitated for their outstanding contribution in journalism.
Adv Gandhi appreciated the contribution of journalists and their families for the society and assured all possible help to them.
A musical programme of Khandekar Orchestra was organised jointly by TPBT and Nagpur Union of Working Journalists (NUWJ) on the occasion. Singers Mamata Khandekar, Vijay Borkar, Suraj Malviya and Rachna Khandekar regaled the audience with patriotic songs and latest hits.
Well-known Hawaiian guitarist Rajesh Thaker was the star attraction of the event. Other musicians included Ramesh Khandekar (Spanish guitar), Ashok Thaware (drum), Robert Lobo (organ), Ghanshyam Burman (dholak) and Santosh Masdhumatke (octopad). Sunil Daharwal operated the sound and lighting.
Journalists Nandu Andhare (The Hitavada), Vivek Deshpande (Indian Express), Ram Bhakre (Loksatta), Naresh Dongre (Lokmat), Avinash Mahajan (Maharashtra Times), Shreya Hemant Salodkar (child artist) Vasundhara Sane and Rashmi Wankar mesmerised the audience with old and new film songs.
Pradip Kumar Maitra; President of TPBT and Nagpur Press Club, Shirish Borkar; President NUWJ and General Secretary of TPBT, Brahma Shankar Tripathi; General Secretary of NUWJ and Nagpur Press Club, Joseph Rao; Treasurer TPBT and office-bearers of Press Club Rahul Pande and Sarita Kaushik worked hard for success of the programme.
