Mayor’s Cup All-India Dance Competition inaugurated
Nagpur known as Smart City, Green City and Tiger Capital is now known as Happy City. A number of cultural programmes are giving a new face to the city, said Mayor Nanda Jichkar on Saturday.
She was speaking after inaugurating Mayor’s Cup All India Dance Competition organised jointly by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Kalashringar Nritya Niketan at Kavivarya Suresh Bhatt Auditorium, Reshimbag. Chairman; Sports Committee; Nagesh Sahare, Deputy Chairman; Pramod Tabhane; Sports Inspector; Naresh Choudhary, dance guru Sonu Nakshine, judge of the competition Ramesh Lakhmapure, Renu Majahan, Prashant Koturwar, Pranali Raut and Priti Puranik were seated on the dais.
Speaking further Ms Jichkar said, Union Minister Nitin Gakari organises Khasdar Krida Mahotsav, which has created a cultural atmosphere in the city. With construction of Kavivarya Suresh Bhatt auditorium Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Gadkari have given a cultural gift to the city. The Mayor’s Innovation Awards provided a platform to those having a zeal to do something new.
With all these programmes and development, Nagpur is now looked as a global city. Rising participation in every venture has given another name as Happy City, she said.
Informing about the objective of the dance competition, Nagesh Sahare said it was an honest attempt to provide a platform to the players and artists.
Earlier, Mayor Jichkar lighted the traditional lamp to inaugurate the programme. Lavynya Waghmare presented Ganesh Stavan. Mahesh Sandekar presented a dance on Jaane Kaha Gaye Who Din. Some of the participants were honoured with mementos at the hands of Mayor. Ms Jichkar also welcomed all the judges of the competition.
The dance competition is being held in three group 5-10, 10-15 and above 15 years. Dancers from Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, West Bengal, Pune, Mumbai, Jalgaon, Akola, Chandrapur, Aurangabad, Nashik and other places are participating in the competition. The prize distribution of the competition will be held on Sunday at 3 pm.
