To understand the science behind the publications, meta-analysis, randomized controlled trials, its significance on day to day practice, and awareness of data collection, paper presentations in renowned journals and conferences, Cardiological Society of India, Vidarbha Chapter had organized a Continuing Medical Education Session (CME) on Sunday on an important subject ’Basic concepts in clinical research’ which is at the heart of any medical practice – Evidence based treatments.
At the outset, President Dr Anuj Sarda made introductory welcome speech. He said facing a huge epidemic of cardiovascular diseases in our country; it is the responsibility of each and every one of us to effectively promote the concept of CVD prevention among our patients and the public at large. It should be priority of all cardiologists, both interventional and non interventional, to identify the barriers for implanting CVD prevention and formulate plans to overcome them.
To implement this huge task CVD prevention, we need to put our efforts together in to identify those at risk, favourably modify their risk factors and make public aware of the importance of adoption of healthy lifestyle. This daylong conference is bringing together Cardiologists, Physicians, Clinicians and Statisticians from diverse sectors who will address the Basics in the fields of Biostatistics, Applied statistics and their application areas to fulfill their needs of the society, nation, and world at large.
In the first scientific session, Dr. Vijay Katekhaye highlighted “Want to publish what you can publish?†and “Understanding the data and measure of distributionâ€
Dr. Sanjay Agrawal spoke on “Which data, which test?†The session was chaired by Dr. Kashif Sayyed and Dr. Sanket Pendsey.
Second session was chaired by Dr. Kiran Belsare. Dr. Sanjay Agrawal simplified “Understanding the Risk: Odd Ratio, AR, RR and HR†Dr. Vijay Katekhaye discussed “Concepts of NNT and Kaplan- Meir Curves while Dr. Maity explained “Steps of meta-analysis and understanding of Forest plotâ€
In the third session chaired by Dr. Parag Admane and Dr. B. C. Meshram Dr. Viajy Katekhaye highlighted “Basic Principles of writing research while Dr. P. P. Joshi presented “Birds Eye viewâ€
In fourth session, Dr. Shantanu Sengupta briefly presented “What reviewer observes in your paper?†Dr. Vijay Katekhaye guided on “Submitting a paper in a journal: You should know this†Dr. Manish Juneja and Dr. Deepak Sane were the chairpersons.
A booklet on ‘Basic concepts in clinical research’  was released on the occasion that highlights P value, RCT, forest plot/ holograms, meta-analysis, how to do research work and paper publication and to keep pace in developments and challenges in statistical methods and application.
Dr. Anuj Sarda, made concluding remarks. At the end, Dr. Vipul Seta, Hon. Secretary, CSI VC, proposed the vote of thanks. The CME was restricted to 30 seats and the participants were issued Certificates of Attendance. The programme was supported by J B Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals by unconditional Educational grants.
