The inaugural ceremony marking the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of VMV College, Wardhaman Nagar, was organised on February 23, at its college premises, Wardhman Nagar. Union Minister of Road Transport Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Nitin Gadkari, inaugurated the function.
Vice-Chancellor of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Dr. Murlidhar Chandekar, was the Guest of Honour on this occasion. Shri Nagpur Gujarati Trustee Mandal, Adv. Chandrakantbhai Thakar, Chairman, President, Shri Nagpur Gujarati Mandal Yogeshbhai Patel, MLC Girishji Vyas, MLA, Dr. Milind Mane, MLA Krishna Khopde, MLA Sudhakar Kohale, and Principal Dr. K. P. Kariya, Organising Secretary of the celebrations were present on the dais.
At the outset, the tributes were paid to the CRPF martyrs at Pulwama. Dr. K. P. Kariya in his introductory remarks briefed about the history of the institution and observed that celebrating Golden Jubilee was like celebrating the success of the college. Adv. C. J. Thakar reminisced with appreciation the efforts and contribution of the founding members of the institution. The college, he stated, aimed not only at the academic fulfillment but also to see to it that its students become good citizens of the country.
Dr. Chandekar thanked the management of the college for giving him the privilege of the Chief Guest on the inaugural occasion of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations. Dwelling on the educational methods prevalent today, he put the onus on the educational institutions which can mold a student into a functional citizen. Gadkari stated that the conversion of knowledge to wealth should be our goal; he observed that there is a dire need in India for skill development.
He said that since manpower with right education, experience and skill will make a person competent in his/her field, there is necessity of more skill centers to be opened in India. He felt that the syllabus in the Universities should be designed not by teachers but by entrepreneurs and industrialists so that skill based employment will always be available for students in the country.
Vice-President, Nagpur Gujarati Mandal Adv. N. K. Jha, General Secretary Sanjaybhai Thakar, , all the other members of the Mandal and  executive body, the respected members of Gujarati Samaj, the Corporators of the city, teachers, non-teaching staff, students and parents were prominently present on the occasion.
Dr. Sonu Jeswani conducted the proceedings of the function while Prof. Minal Rajdev proposed a vote of thanks. The function was concluded with the National Anthem.
