A two-day workshop was organised here by Epigraphy branch of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in association with Vasantrao Naik Government Institute of Arts and Social Sciences, Nagpur, for graduate and post-graduate students of Arabic, Persian and Urdu at Puratatva Bhavan, Seminary Hills, Nagpur.
Dr M Nambrajan, Regional Director (West), ASI, Mumbai inaugurated the workshop. Dr Ms S Maharaj Patil, Director, Vasantrao Naik Government Institute of Arts and Social Sciences, Nagpur, presided over the function while Dr G S Khwaja, former director Epigraphy, was the guest of honour.
An exhibition of specimen of Islamic Calligraphy was also organised on the occasion, which was inaugurated by Dr Nambirajan. Mohammed Shahnawaz Alam, ASE delivered the welcome address and Mohammed Tarique Rasool, Assistant Epigraphist conducted the programme.
Around 35 participants were imparted training in calligraphy through illustrative lecture and PPt presented by Dr Izhar Hashmi, SA Incharge Nagpur Circle, Dr Nikhil Das, excavation branch, and resource persons Dr G S Khwaja, Prof M A Siddiqi, Head Department of Persian, Mohammed Shahnawaz Alam, Head epigraphy branch and others.
Dr Virag Sontakke, Assistant Director, Central Museum, Nagpur, was the chief guest at the valedictory function, who gave away certificates to the participants. Mohammed Shahnawaz Alam was the convener of the workshop. The programme was conducted by Mohammed Tarique Rasool, Assistant Epigraphist while Muntazir Ali, Assistant Epigraphist proposed a vote of thanks.
