SECL hockey team emerges runners up in inter-company tourney

The hockey team of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) emerged runners up in the Coal India inter-company hockey tournament held at Hathpadi Stadium of Singraini Coal Company, Manuguru Area.

Teams of SECL Bilaspur, host Singraini Coal Company Kothaguddam, WCL, Nagpur, BCCL Dhanbad, CCL Ranchi, NCL Singrouli, MCL Sambalpur and ECL Asansol participated in the tourney.  The SECL team was represented by Coach Mustakuddin Korba, Captain Arvind Kumar, Nikhil Kerketta, Silwanus Tompo, Waman Bargat, Kailash Kaul, Prakash Chaudhary, S R Bargat, Virendra Tompo, Alexander Kujur, Ajit Barua, Vikas Shankar Oza, C Khalkho, Zakrias Tompo, Jai Kumar, Ravi Yadav and S Rajesh Henry.

The tournament was played on league-cum knock out basis where SECL topped the Pool A. The final was played between SECL and host Singraini Coal Company where Singraini defeated SECL 2-1 and bagged the title.

The SECL team was awarded runners up cup. SECL Director (Personnel) Dr R S Jha and Manager (Welfare) Sanjeev Jha presented gifts to the team members. Congratulating the team, Jha said hockey is the national game of the country, which displays skills of co-ordination, team work, unity and attack on the opponents to win the game. He extended best wishes to the team for its future encounters.
