Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur celebrated International Women’s Day on Friday, in the Senate Hall of the Institute. Vasanti Naik (Retired Judge) was the Chief Guest, while Principal, N.B. Thakur Law College, Nashik, Dr. Asmita Vaidya, was the Guest of Honor and Director, VNIT Dr. P.M. Padole, presided over the function. Chairperson, Women Cell, Dr. Anupama Kumar, briefed about the purpose and requirement of Women’s Cell in any organization.
Dr. P.M. Padole in his inaugural speech highlighted the strength and ability of women in our society. Chief Guest Vasanti Naik enlightened the women on the various acts and rules for the Women. Guest of Honor Dr. Asmita Vaidya in her lecture gave an idea about the laws related to family court matters, cyber law, adoption law etc. The inauguration was followed by various games and quiz organized for the women employees of VNIT, which was followed by the prize distribution ceremony. The program received great response.
Another uniqueness of the Women’s Day programme was the Cricket match for blind women which was organized by VNIT in association with Cricket Association for the Blind, Maharashtra (CABM) on the Sports ground of VNIT from 3:30 pm to 5:30pm. Dean (FW) ,Dr. D.R. Peshwe, took the initiative to organize this unique event.
The cricket match was played between Aashadeep, Nagpur Team under the mentorship of Shastri Madam and Atmadeep, Vidarbha Team under the mentorship of Jidnyasa Kubade Chawaldhal.  This is the first time such a unique match for Blind Women was organized on International Women’s Day.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks and National Anthem. Deepali Deshpande successfully conducted the proceedings of the programme. Dr. Shital Chiddarwar, Dr. Ramani Motghare, along with Vijaya Deshmukh, Bharti Polke, and Pranoti Supare worked hard for the success of the event.
