Henna or Mehndi, is traditionally and ritually considered as a mark of good omen. And because of this, mehndi ceremony constitutes an important pre-wedding ritual, observed in the Asian sub-continent. Mehndi adds more colorsto the wedding celebrations. But more than that, the deep-rooted cultural significance associated with it also makes it an integral part of an Indian bride’s identity. • It’s the bride’s day and she should have the last say in what kind of mehndi she would want for her big day. Most brides prefer a full spread out mehndi, with motifs of doli or Radha or peacock. The latest trend in 2019, Neha Raut, Nagpur based Mehndi Artist says, is the Portrait Mehndi. Neha tells that, for portrait mehndi, “I need at least 10-15 days to practice the portraits that I am supposed to draw. The portraits are mostly groom’s photo on the bride’s hand. Apart from the bride, the other family members and the bridesmaid mostly prefer Arabic mehndi.”

• “Mehndi functions have only gotten more glamorous and Bollywood inspired”, Neha says. “Girls are dressed in a more Indo-Western outfits with fresh flowers as their jewellery.” Another favorite trend that is making waves across weddings is the #hashtag trend. Inspired from #Virushka and #deepveer, all the couples want to have their own hashtags. Even bride, groom and all the wedding guests get the wedding hashtags done in mehndi, exclaims Neha.

• Hair is everybody’s crowning glory and the brides have all the reasons to flaunt it on their D Day. For Sangeet and Mehndi, brides mostly go for either open hair with loose curls or partly tied up with a puff. For Haldi, braids with fresh flowers are so in and they look absolutely stunning as well. For Cocktail, a messy bun with a wreathe made out of fresh flowers looks just magical. And for the wedding, a neat bun with fresh roses matching with the bride’s outfit takes her entire look to an altogether different level.
