The police on Monday busted a gang of coal black marketing, seized 158.73 tonnes of coal worth 56 lakh and arrested six persons in this connection. One of the accused is still at large.
According to information given by police, the trucks after filling coals from different mines, instead of taking it to the designated place would take it to a person, engaged in illegal business and sell it to him. The police through their informers got the information that the illegal trade was going on at an open place behind a petrol pump near Kapsi on Bhandara road.
The police then chalked out a plan and raided the place on Monday and seized six trucks carrying coal illegally. Total 158.73 tonnes of coal worth Rs 56 lakh along with other material were seized during the raid. The police also arrested six persons in this connection. The names of the arrested were given as Azhar Sheikh Inyat Sheikh (26), resident of Inder Colony, Kanhan, Nashm Sheikh Rahatullah (39), resident of Ward No 5 Dahegaon , Khaparkheda, Mangesh Dharamraj Thavre (26), resident of Hanuman Nagar, Tekadi, Kanhan, Ramchandra Ankush Mankar (41), resident of Plot No 19, Saraswati Nagar, Dighori, Bahadura, Nagpur, Rambahor Dwarkaprasad Chaudhari (30), resident of Jari Bazar, Alahabad, Uttar Pradesh and Uday Shankar Singh (48), resident of Nivrutti Nagar, Kalamna, Nagpur.
One of the accused Ramnarayan Thakur (48), resident of Katol Road, Nagpur is absconding. The police have registered an offence under relevant sections of IPC. Further investigations are on.
10 motorcycles gutted, foul play suspected
As many as 10 motorcycles parked near a school in Ravi Nagar locality under the jurisdiction of Ambazari police station were reduced to ashes on the wee hours of Monday. A foul play is suspected in the incident with cops suspecting some person might have set afire the vehicles. The exact reason behind the fire could not be known. According to rough estimates, it has caused loss of Rs 2 lakh. Till filing of this report, no arrest was made.
