A serene morning, a few dark clouds hovering over the city sky, equally bright sunshine and a little rain, a perfect atmosphere greeted people on the Hindu new year, Gudi Padwa.
The mornings arrived early and people were already seen on the streets right from 5:00 am. When asked where they were heading? They replied with a little smile, to the musical programme nearby. The city that celebrates everything, welcomed the first day of the new year traditionally. Padwa Pahats were organised around the city. The artistes enthralled people with various Marathi songs. ‘Geet Ramayan’ definitely got all the attention, and people tapped their feet on the Marathi songs from various movies.
Later, people headed home and prepared the traditional Gudi to be mounted outside their homes. But before that, they made sure that they were dressed in traditional attire and decorated their houses with floral decorations and beautiful  bright rangolis.
Once the auspicious Gudi, which is believed to bring good luck and prosperity, was hoisted outside the house, in the porches, galleries and the terrace, it was time for traditional Marathi cuisines. Shrikhand, Puri, Puran Poli, Kheer, Aaloo ki sabji was a common sight at every home and people relished those delicacies.
What was also common was definitely the WhatsApp messages in the form of images, videos and Marathi text.
The evening saw people rushing to buy the gold as it is considered auspicious to buy gold on Gudi Padwa. And also, musical evenings began at various places in the city. Indian festivals truly put forth a happy picture of the country, where people find happiness in little things such as, putting a toran at the entrance of the house.
Team TLN also brings to you pictures from around the city on how people celebrated the Gudi Padwa.
