Veteran swimmer of the city Bhojraj Meshram brought laurels to the city by clinching gold medal in the National Open Sea Swimming competition held at Gateway of India in Mumbai recently.
Meshram completed the Sunk Rock to Gateway of India five-kilometre distance within 47.57 min to secure the gold medal. In 13 to 16 age category budding city swimmer Sohini Mukharjee swam five-kilometre distance between Sunk Rock to Gateway of India in 1.1.14 seconds and finished fourth.
Another swimmer Vedika Sable (1.13 min), Tejas Waghmare (57 min), Aditya Khadse, Dashrath Pancheshwar also participated in the event. In Under-12 section two-kilometre category, Prapti Bawankar (28 min), Aradhya Bomle (19 min) also excelled. Around 400 swimmers from all over India participated in the event. Sohini is the regular member of local Shark Aquatic Sporting Association and has been trained under the guidance of Sanjay Batwe at Kamgar Kalyan Mandal swimming pool.
