Bhagwan Mahavir Janam Kalyanak Mahotsav is being celebrated by the
Jain brethren in the city with religious fervour and gaiety. Various
events have been organised across the city to mark the occasion.
On the occasion, rituals were performed followed by procession in which people from all ages took part with utmost enthusiasm. A beautifully decorated palkhi carrying an idol of Lord Mahavir was the main attraction of the procession.
State energy minister and district guardian minister of Nagpur
Chandrashekhar Bawankule also took part in the procession and extended
his greetings to the Jain community on the auspicious occasion.
Members of Jain community took out the grand processions from
Digambar Jain temples in the city. Special puja and abhishek was
performed at Parvarpura temple in Tiwari, Shri Parshvanath Digambar
temple at Sadar and Sumatinath Jain Temple, Ramdaspeth.
At Parvarpura Jain temple, procession was taken out at 7.30 am. The
procession moved through Shahid Chowk, Badkas Chowk, Mahal,
Kalyaneshwar temple before concluding at Suresh Bhat auditorium.
People conveyed the message of peace and harmony in this procession
named ‘Ahinsa Yatra’, organised by Jain Sewa Mandal with the support
of Mahavir Youth Club. 24 ‘teerthankars’ were part of this
shobhayatra.
Office-bearers and members of Mahavir Youth Club along
with several hundreds of devotees including children and elderly
people were also the part of this procession. They were carrying
placards conveying the message of peace, harmony, self-control,
environment conservation, etc.
Various other events will be held too to mark the occasion, which
include Ahinsa Award distribution ceremony. This mega event will be
held at Reshimbagh.
