The women wing of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagpur staged demonstration at Samvidhan Chowk to protest against the remarks of Congress leaders from Chandrapur. They said, Congress leaders’ remarks were insensitive. The women workers of BJP also handed over a memorandum to the senior police officials demanding FIR against the Congress leaders.
It may be mentioned here that former State minister and senior Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar, Chandrapur District Congress president Subhash Dhote and Congress candidate from Chandrapur Suresh alias Balu Dhanorkar had said that many victims came forward to register complaint of Sexual abuse at the residential school in Rajura tehsil of Chandrapur district after district guardian minister and State finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar promised to give compensation to victim’s family. They also said that there are outsider in the morcha which was taken out to protest against the institute demanding action.
The statement drew sharp criticism from other political parties and various organisations. The tribal community too was miffed with the statements made by senior Congress leader over the sensitive issue.
It may be recalled here Rajura police have so far arrested five workers of the hostel where the alleged sexual abuse took place. They were subsequently suspended by the Institute, which is run by District congress chief Subhash Dhote.
The demonstration was led by State General Secretary and former Mayor Archana Dehankar and City president of BJP Mahila Morcha Kirtida Ajmera. They met senior police officials and submitted a memorandum to take appropriate action against the Congress leaders. Those present included Sandya Thakres, Seema Dhomne, Vandana Sharma, Pooja Tiwari, Kanchan Karmarkar, Sangeeta Deshmukh, Sangeeta Patil, Anita Mishra, Mangala Patil and others.
