Heat wave grips city as mercury soars

Blistering heat is making life difficult for the Nagpurians as the mercury soared to 43.4 degree Celsius on Wednesday, nearly 1.9 notches above the normal temperature. Over the last 24 hour, mercury has increased by nearly one degree and according to Met official; the temperature may further go up in the next 72 hour. The IMD had already issued three-day heat wave warning for Nagpur. City is already reeling under heat wave like condition. IMD said that heat wave will intensify in day to come making the city hotter.

The night temperature too has witnessed a sharp rise in the last 24 hours. Met official said, mercury jumped by 2.2 notches and was 2.1 degree higher than the normal. On Thursday night, city recorded minimum temperature of 27.4 degree Celsius.

Akola, however, has emerged as the hottest place in the region with 45.1 degree Celsius. It is 3.4 notches above the normal temperature. In the last 24 hours, mercury zoomed by 1.7 degrees. Bramhapuri and Chandrapur too were reeling under heat wave like condition. Bramhapuri recorded a maximum temperature of 44.7 degree Celsius while Chandrapur recorded 44.2 degree Celsius.

In Wardha too, people are facing the heat with mercury reaching 43.9 degree Celsius, 2.2 notches above normal. Amravati recorded 44 degree Celsius. Among other cities in the region, Yavatmal recorded 43 degree Celsius; Washim recorded 42 degree Celsius while Gondia and Washim recorded 42 degree Celsius each.

Mercury has also witnessed a jump of 1.1 degree Celsius in the last 24 hours. On Wednesday, Buldhana recorded 41.7 degree Celsius, which was 3.3 notches above normal.
