A human chain is an amalgamation of minds and hearts that are synchronized as one to show the strength of a purpose they are all committed to. It is not for fun that these hands are held but, on May 1, labour day, the people of Nagpur laboured hard to establish their stand in the issue of Bharat Van.
When in India, we believe our Democracy is a Government for the people, of the people and by the people, and, when the Government finds that the people are completely opposed to the short-sighted mis- development plan proposed, it will throw light on whose interest is being served by the idea to destroy a forest? This is a chain that would tie up the faltering minds of the planners.
A union of hands by the citizens of Nagpur, is the strong barricade against the ill conceived thoughts of the planners. It is a show of strength of opposition to unsustainable development.
It is time for urban planners to pause and introspect. Not just because of the strength of the thinking and visionary public of Nagpur, but in the wider interest of leaving behind a legacy of natural resources to the future generations of a gifted green cover city.
