Modern school students bagged the 2nd Runners up trophy for their wonderful performance in the theatrical competition Shakespeare Slam-‘The battle of the bard’ held at St Ursula Girls High School recently. They presented the play ‘Macbeth’ which was selected out of the nine plays given by Helen ‘o’ Grady International. The team received a trophy and individual certificates for all the thirty three participants.
Mr. Duncan Rice-the international director of Shakespeare Slam from South Africa was one of the judges to witness the play. The other judges were Dr. Pronoti Chuckerbutty – founder of Shakespeare society, Central India and ex-principal of Hislop College, Nagpur and Dr. Christopher Kutino the ex-vice principal of Hislop College.
The competition was quite tough and challenging. The students showed their hard work and dedication towards drama that aroused a new confidence in them towards theater. The motive behind Shakespeare Slam is to revive Shakespeare’s plays and to make it simpler to understand through theatrical performances.
The student director of the play was Mast Ninad Shende working under the guidance of the teachers of the school Poonam Dadwal, Mrs Bina Bhutani and Dipti Kale, Neeru Kapai Director, Anuradha Sardeshpande appreciated the teachers for taking great efforts to bring out the best of acting talents in the students.
