National Technology Day is observed every year on 11th of May in India, acting as a reminder of the anniversary of Shakti.
 Shakti is the Pokhran nuclear test which was held on May 11, 1998. The day highlights the important role of Science in our daily lives and encourages students to embrace Science as a career option. Various events are organized in different technical institutes and engineering colleges to mark the day.
Competitions, quizzes, lectures, interactive sessions and presentations of various aspects of Science are managed globally. The day is crucial for engineers, planners, scientists and others who are engaged in nation building and governance.
Every year since 1999, the Technology Development Board (TDB) commemorates the day by honouring technological innovations that have positively impacted the nation.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the nation and reminisced the work done by Former PM Atal Bihari Vajapayee.
He tweeted that “the patriotism and farsightedness of Atal Ji and his team have a major role to play in the success of tests of 1998. Atal Ji’s unwavering faith in our scientists proved valuable during that crucial time. It also demonstrated the difference a strong political leadership makes.â€
The day is celebrated as a symbol of quest for scientific inquiry and technological creativity, and their translation into the integration of science, society.
