The Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) would give its 0.5 acres of land to South East Central Railway (SECR) for the third line at Kanhan.
The proposal to handover the piece of land to railways was taken in the meeting of management council here on Saturday. The land transfer process is likely to complete in a few days.
It is pertinent to note here that the South East Central Railway had started work on third line between Nagpur and Bilaspur several years ago. Near Kanhan, the project had hit a road block as the Nagpur University management was reluctant to handover the land to railways.
According to sources, a delegation of railway officials met vice-chancellor of Nagpur University Dr SP Kane nearly 15 days ago to discuss the issue. Both the parties had a long deliberation on transfer of land, after which Dr Kane assured to take positive measures.
He also informed the delegation that transfer of land would be possible only after approval of the management council.
Recently, an urgent meeting of the management council was called to get this proposal of land transfer approved. A proposal was presented before the members of management council. Minutes of meeting with the railways’ delegation was also presented before the management council.
During discussion, members were informed that SECR would give compensation as per market rate to the university. A meeting would now be called between railways and varsity officials over the issue.
