Passengers created ruckus at Nagpur Railway Station and alleged that they were not informed about cancellation of train. The incident happened around 5.50 pm on Saturday.
Passengers who had booked ticket of Nagpur-Amritsar express in advance arrived at the railway station ahead of its scheduled departure time. However, they were shocked to know that the train has been cancelled.
Totally clueless about this development, they expressed their anger and reached Central Railway’s divisional railway manager office. They met officials of the revenue division and demanded alternative arrangements.
Assistant manager (commercial) AG Rao informed them that the decision to cancel the train was taken four days ago due to interlocking and non-interlocking work near Jhansi junction. He also informed the passengers that a SMS was sent to all the passengers with confirmed/waiting/RAC ticket.
However, the passengers were not satisfied with this reply and they demanded berth in alternate trains to start their journey as per their schedule. Rao expressed inability in fulfilling their demand and assured them that they are permitted to travel on any other train on the same ticket, but berth could not be allotted to them as per rules.
It is pertinent to note here that railways has been carrying out interlocking work near Jhansi to ensure smooth movement of trains and beef up safety measures. However, due to this work, several trains have been cancelled while routes of a few trains have been changed. Schedule of a few trains are also changed by the railways. Ensure are on to finish the work as early as possible.
