Endress+Hauser India a leading Swiss based Process automation company has successfully installed field instruments for measurement and control of critical process parameters in new Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) of 130 MLD at Nagpur Municipal Corporation at Bhandewadi STP. With this installation, the STP plant has pioneered in the domain of environmental technologies with this application , treatment and transmission facilities for reclaimed water usage. The plant has been witnessing timely technology upgradation and the treated water since April 2016 till date is 130 MLD. This treated water is used for irrigation and household purpose by the farmers in the vicinity. The project was jointly developed by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and MAHAGENCO. Entire treated waste water is supplied to MAHAGENCO’s 1,980 MW Koradi Thermal Power Station. This is for the first time in India the treated sewage is reused by an electricity generating company. The sewage water is treated to the extent that dissolved phosphate is less than 5 PPM.

With the new installations being up and running, the technology promises to save fresh water to the extent of 47 MM3 per annum. This will also improve ecology and environment of surrounding water bodies and will be a reliable and economical source of water supply for power plants. The process automation system is future ready to take care of the power requirement and make the STP self- sustainable.
Real time monitoring of these treatment systems helps in ensuring regulatory compliance and reduces the risk of effluents discharge. This EQMS based process automation has provided the engineers a novel opportunity to observe the remote plants in real time and to guide the sub-divisional offices to efficiently execute their duties real time monitoring alerts the engineers if concentrations of effluents cross-regulatory levels. Online monitoring leads to cost savings by increasing the efficiency of the treatment process. The necessity of capturing this data helps the corporation to regulate the quality of the water which is defined based on parameters like Dissolved Oxygen, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biological Oxygen demand (BOD), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Chlorine, pH and flow.
