With an aim to resume bus service at narrow and mercantile areas in the city, NMC geared up for to start mini buses service. Under this, three bus operators of Aapli bus will manage about 45 buses in totality. These buses will start running for the citizens in the month of June. But, about two similar buses were seen at Amravati road suddenly and attracted everybody’s attention. The new mini buses can be operated once the code of conduct kept for Lok Sabha elections ends.
About 18 roads have been selected in city for these buses. Also, there are constant attempts being made to start bus service between Railway Station to Sitabuldi bus stand. Reportedly, NMC Transport Committee was ready to start mini bus service in city from March 1 in 2017. Even the contract signed with the operators mentions about this plan but, it somehow, got delayed due to slow functioning of Transport Department.
Eventually, chairman of Transport Committee Bunty Kukde continued working for the related proposal. However, it is cleared why the buses were bought right before the code of conduct. These buses will run in phases. About 5 buses reached the city in the first phase. Another 2 buses came to the city on Thursday. People saw two new red coloured mini buses running on Amravati road at 2 pm on Thursday. People kept looking at these buses in awe when they stopped at the signals of Futala square, Bharat Nagar square, Ravi Nagar square. People were actually curious to know about whom the buses belong to. However, the buses headed to Law College square from Amravati road and went to NMC depot through Civil Lines.
The 18 selected roads where these buses will run include Sitabuldi to Kamptee via Mominpura area, Pipla Fata to Gandhibagh, Sitabuldi to New Narsala, Sitabuldi to Shanti Nagar via Medical square, Sitabuldi to Shesh Nagar, Sitabuldi to Wanjari layout. Mini buses will run for about 8581 km in 747 trips. Currently, about 327 buses are being operated on 60 roads.
On general basis, the mini buses will run via Sitabuldi, Ganeshpeth bus stand, Airport, Law College to Khamla and other areas. But, in the coming future, the mini buses will also be connected to Metro stations. This will enhance connectivity at government offices at Civil Lines.
