Residents around the city are afraid of the increasing number of stray dogs in their area. The residents are even seen abusing the animals either by throwing stones at them, shooing them away by throwing water on them or sometimes even teenagers are seen charging the animals with vehicles, intentionally. Also, it all comes upon the caretakers of animals from a particular area, that other residents oppose their work or blame them for the increasing number of animals or state of their area.
The governmental schemes are either not properly promoted or half the time is being denied by the officials. In fact, government seems to only focus on cows and bring up new schemes and facilities every day, the other animals are seen dying on roads and in pain without any treatment or facilities. Most of the helpline numbers are also switched off.
Abhijeet Dehadrya, a social activist has been helping the dogs from his area, Jayprakash Nagar by providing them shade during the hot summer. The activist has been in contact with some of the NGO’s from Nagpur city.
The cattle are seen roaming around the areas during the evening time which are also a major reason of vehicular accidents happening during the night time. As already many areas are provided with no facilities of street lights, the animals are invisible, especially the buffalo and black cows.
Dog shelter at Bhandewadi has some of the worst conditions and diseases and is not suitable for any animal. They have food scarcity, they are large in number, adult dogs and puppies are kept together and the people walking around are the only ones who feed them, that too in days.
