The results of JEE (Advanced), 2019 were announced on Friday, with Kartikey Gupta of Ballarpur emerging as the topper. As per reports, Vedant Borkute of Nagpur was topped in OBC category.
As many as 1180 students had appeared in the exam from Nagpur division, of which 158 qualified for admission to IITs. Vedant Sabu bagged AIR 147 while Abhishek Gandhi bagged AIR 277. Chinmay Ratnaparkhi remained at AIR 367 while Krishna Battad bagged AIR 850. Atharva Warhade bagged 145th rank in BOC category.
Kartikeya had bagged AIR 18th position in JEE Main. He not only improved his ranking in the Advanced but also made the region proud by emerging India topper.
Gupta hails from Ballarpur in Chandrapur district. He obtained 346, out of 372 marks. He had scored 93.69 per cent in the Class 12 exams of the Maharashtra State Board.
Gupta comes from a family of engineers. His father is an engineer and is working in a paper production company and his elder brother has completed his BTech in computer science and is also working.
Kartikey says when he was going to Mumbai, his parents had handed him a smartphone but he refused to take it and instead, settled for a basic Nokia phone.
“My parents had given me a smartphone but I told them I do not need it. I was away from social media for two years. Whenever my parents would call, I would speak to them. Even other students in the hostel desisted from using smartphones and used basic phones,” he said.
