World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Academy, a specialised agency of the United Nations, Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of IP Management, Nagpur (RGNIIPM) and the Maharashtra National Law University Nagpur (MNLUN), have jointly organised the WIPO-India Summer School on Intellectual Property (IP) from 17th to 28th June 2019 at RGNIIPM, Nagpur.
The inauguration of Summer School programme was graced by the Chief Guest Prof.V.C.Vivekanandan, Dean, School of Law at Bennett University at RGNIIPM, Nagpur.
During the inauguration Dr.K.S.Kardam, Sr. Joint Controller of Patents & Designs, Dr.Vijender Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Maharashtra National Law Universityand Dr. Pankaj Borkar, Dy.Controller of P & D & Head, RGNIIPM were also present.
Total 65 participants from all the corners of India are participating in the said WIPO-India Summer School programme. The said programme provides an opportunity to students and young professionals to acquire deeper knowledge in the domain of IP.
In the inaugural address, Dr.Pankaj Borkar, DC & Head, RGNIIPM welcomed the dignitaries and participants of the programme and assured them to provide the best in all aspects of IP training programme throughout the training session(s).
Whereas, Prof. (Dr.) Vijender Kumar, conveyed the gratitude to WIPO for giving an opportunity for third consecutive year for conducting WIPO-India Summer School in Nagpur. He further emphasized the protection of IP, role of RGNIIPM and MNLU for promoting Nagpur as the innovation hub and assured to provide all kind of assistance to WIPO for efficiently conducting such programmes in future also.
Dr.K.S.Kardam, Sr. Joint Controller highlighted the various initiatives taken by the Govt. of India, to create a balance IP ecosystem in the country. He also highlighted the various changes brought in the working of Indian Patent Office(s) for last two years, transparency in processing of IP filing applications, their disposals and others. He also informed about accession of the various international treaties by the government during last couple of years and future plans, which would be beneficial for the stakeholders and new entrepreneurs to deal with IP.
He also emphasized on various objectives of National Policy in India and ongoing nationwide awareness in IPR and also about increased &speedy disposal of IP applications
In the inaugural and key note address, Prof. V.C. Vivekanandan has appraised the efforts of RGNIIPM and MNLU for promoting IP and emphasizes about the. He stated that it’s an opportunity to allow participants to interact with people from all over the world on IP issues and such training programmes are essential to be conducted in large scale so as to enable the participants to gain more knowledge on IP.
Pooja Maulikar, Examiner of Patents & Designs of RGNIIPM proposed the Vote of Thanks.
Dr. Pankaj Borkar, Deputy Controller of Patents & Designs and Head, RGNIIPM, Pooja Maulikar, Examiner of P & D, RGNIIPM, Dr Ragini Khubalkar, Dr.Himanshu Pandey both from MNLU and staff of RGNIIPM & MNLU are taking efforts to make the programme as grand success.
