Save Merit Save Nation agitation is a fast-growing movement started for the betterment of open category people. Dr. Anup Marar a member of the group, who stands with equality for every citizen, shared his views on the ongoing movement to save the merit system in the country.
The current scenario for the open category has changed drastically, the forward classes are now backward, and this raised a new question… Who really is backward?
Dr. Marar further said that even after covering 40% of the population, as open category we still need to communicate to more and more people and educate them about the problems with an increase in reservation in the education and job sector.
One should understand that the High Court ordered state government that if one has to apply SEBC, EWS rule for the current academic year then they should also increase the number of seats. However, this was not followed by the state government leading to which HC rejected the appeal and canceled the process for the academic year.
Speaking about the decision of High Court over SEBC, EWS reservation he said that recently Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in his speech said that state government will increase the seats for both SEBC and EWS category so that more student get a chance to enroll in various sectors. This move by the CM shows that our voices are reaching to the masses.
Future plans…
We are planning to start Chain Hunger Strike in which one group or community will sensitize the subject ‘Save Merit Save Nation’ to all this will create a chain of awareness among people.
Regular postcards, letters are being written by different community members, which will then be forwarded to Prime Minister and Chief Minister.
We are planning for a pan India rallies with the slogan Save Merit Save Nation in Aurangabad, Gondia, Yavatmal, Amravati, Jalna, Wardha. Through these rallies, we will connect more people and will sensitize the subject of how important it is to save merit-based selection criteria in our education, employment system.
One must think that people who fall under Open category do not have any kind of support from the government in scholarships, job vacancies, subsidies or any special provinces in any kind. We must fight for our rights in the best possible way.
Message for the people…
Our message for the masses is very clear we are not against any caste or creed we just need equality in the selection process. The opportunity of equality should be given to every person. We want 50-50 reservation criteria 50% reservation whereas 50% selection through merit-based. This will lead to a better quality of students which will surely help India in the path of faster development.
Now as the academic session of 2019-2020 will commence soon students should fight for the inequality in the selection process in colleges, the sufferers of the new ordinance passed by the government must reach the court and should file the petition as it will be helpful for their future.
The competition which we are offering to the students with aspect to a reservation will have an adverse effect on them.
Policymakers must understand that if one increases the reservation above 50% then other category people will not have a chance to enroll themselves, one should not dilute it any further and must include all within 50% reservation quota.
It is my humble request to everyone to join hands and fight for our rights and does not let the reservation exceeds more than 50%.
