June 21, it’s a day to celebrate a healthy living, peace and harmony. If you are thinking about International Yoga Day, then let me tell you it’s also World Music Day.
There’s nothing in the world like the sound of your favorite song coming on, it just gets right into your head and your body and makes you move. Or maybe it takes you on a journey to a faraway place and time.
Where Yoga is a holistic package of happy living, Music is a rhythmic treat to your mind and soul. Thus, Yoga and Music is like the magical union of mind, body, breath and beat.
World Music Day is celebrated every year on June 21 in over 120 countries including its country of origin France where it is known as ‘Fête de la Musique’ meaning “festival of music†to honour both amateur and professional musicians.
The idea was conceived in the 1970s by American musician Joel Cohen, then working for a French radio station as he wanted bands to play on the evening of June 21 to welcome the first day of summer.
Some of our favorite songs can lift us up out of depression and sorry, and make an otherwise horrible day suddenly seem like it’s not so bad. World Music Day celebrates music in all its forms and the impact it’s had on the world and the human spirit.
Some of the city’s musicians have been celebrating this day as well, one of them who is a bass player in a band called Infestation, Akshay Dhengre said, “it’s been since I was in my first year of engineering that I have been playing bass and celebrating World Music Day.
Now, that I have been to many places touring with my band I have seen lots of other ways through people of celebrating this day. This gives us a reason to unite again and takes us back in our nostalgic time.â€
It’s not just the musicians and singers who should celebrate this day. Every person around you has his/her own genre of songs that attract them. So let’s celebrate the Music by tuning into your favorite playlist and set the mood for the rest of the day.
Happy World Music Day!
