Immediately after Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) certification, Maha Metro has decided to start operations from both the ends. In fact, Nagpur Metro will introduce hourly train service from its two locations of Sitabuldi Interchange Station and Khapri Metro Station.
As per the plan being readied, Metro service will now start from 8 am from both locations mentioned earlier. Accordingly, two trains would start from Sitabuldi and Khapri Stations on Up and Down track on an hourly basis. The services would be operational from 8 am till 7 pm. Thus, very soon, Metro trains would be running on both tracks.
Two services every hour from 8 am to 7 pm. Last service from buldi at 7 pm and from khapri at 8 pm. No service from buildi at 8 pm. Hence total services would be 25 – 12 one way and 24 two way from 8 am to 7 pm and single from khapri. Thus 25 services.
Presently, commercial services are operational 6 times a day – 8 am, 9.30 am and 11 am in the morning session and 3.30 pm, 5 pm and 6.30 pm in the second half.
But these scenarios are set for change after CMRS certification. Now, not only the number of services would more than double, but equally importantly, trains moving on Up and Down track, would halt on the adjoining platforms. Thus, Maha Metro Nagpur would now operate 25 services every day instead of existing 6. Both platforms on Metro Stations would be put to use now.
In addition, Maha Metro would launch the passenger services at Jai Prakash Nagar Metro Station next month and followed by Rahate Colony. The commercial services are also set for launch on another important route in Reach-III, which stretches from Sitabuldi Interchange Station and Lokmanya Nagar Metro Station.
The increase in the number of services, would immensely help the citizens, especially those working in shift duties in Nagpur’s industrialised areas of MIHAN and Hingna Industrial Estate. In fact, employees working in MIHAN and also SEZ have been demanding operation of Metro trains as per their working hours.
The hourly services would help in boosting the Metro ridership. Maha Metro Nagpur has already contacted companies operating from Nagpur’s industrial areas and the employees there are using Metro train for commuting to their work place. With increased services, the number of such employees would certainly go up.
Maha Metro is also gearing up launch shuttle services between Airport Metro Station and Nagpur Airport. This will facilitate commuting by Metro train to city airport and back.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), in association with Maha Metro Nagpur has also introduced bus service from Beltarodi area of the city. The bus service covers Airport Station, Airport South, New Airport and Khapri Metro Stations and takes employees to company offices and industrial units in the area.
The bus services start from 7.40 am and continue in phases till 8.20 pm. Maha Metro has already introduced Feeder services as part of Multi Modal Integration (MMI) plans. The bus service would take the employees from their homes to nearest Metro station and from Khapri Metro Station to their respective workplaces spread across MIHAN.
This includes providing e-cycle, bicycle on a sharing basis. This facility has been provided at Metro Stations and has been availed of by companies operating from MIHAN. Apart from feeder services, Maha Metro Nagpur has also provided a series of facilities at its Metro Stations.
Parking facility has also been provided at Metro stations. This has been done keeping in mind the requirements of the commuters travelling by Metro train.
The facilities include features like signage in braille, tactile, special ticketing counter and wheel chair access for specially able, baby care room, CCTV cameras, baggage scanner, security guards at all the Metro stations. The series of facilities help in enhancing passenger comfort at all levels.
