The fire department of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has come down heavily at the coaching institutes running sans proper fire safety arrangements in the city. The issue was brought to fore by the TLN after which NMC issued notice to 96 coaching classes and sealed four coaching institutes. The action was taken after conducting an inspection regarding the fire safety norms.
According to sources, 4 coaching classes in the city were sealed by the department in June which include Sneha tuition classes in Nandanvan, Caliber Nova classes in Mahal, Sanskar Academy in Mahal and Sharda classes in Pratap Nagar.
After inspecting 96 coaching classes in Nagpur, the fire department found that 34 out of them lacked fire safety arrangements. They have been declared unsafe. Water and electricity of 11 classes has been ordered to be cut off.
According to fire brigade officials, several reminders were given to the coaching institutes  to comply with the fire safety norms. However, most of them are still reluctant to adhere to it. As a result, the fire department has taken stern action by sealing four institutes and warning others of meeting the same fate if they fail to take corrective measures.
