Maharashtra State government had banned the use of plastic last year in the month of June and since then, the state saw a decrease in the use of polythene bags and other related goods for months. In the initial period the moment witnessed a drastic fall in the usage of plastic items like spoons, glasses, bags etc. as the sellers, retailers and even consumers were taking proper measures to avoid the use of plastic made goods. But recently, the use of plastic is again on rise while the sellers are seen ignoring the ban.
This negligence is being charged by the officials of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) but still many of the private vendors have a large bunch with them which is being used with an excuse of old stock.
Recently NMC examined 792 cases of the plastic ban, where more than 39,40,000 amount was charged to the vendors of different zones. All of the cases brought up 13,658.840 kilos of seized plastic in total from all of the zones.
Ban of any kind has always been ignored by a majority of people, so instead shouldn’t the government come up with an alternate way. There exists many kinds of plastic for example Hemp Plastic. The authorities should start bringing up such ideas and implement them in Government Market areas.
