The State government on Wednesday informed the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court that government would soon provide separate stoppages and parking space to the school buses across state. The government has also sought grant 4 weeks period for this.
In the year 2012 after the death of the 8 years old Virath Zade, who was crushed under the school bus wheels, the HC had taken a suo moto. On Wednesday Justice Ravi Dehspande and Justice Vinay Joshi heard the petition. As per the Section 117 of Motor Vehicle Act and Rule No 6 of Maharashtra School Buses Rules 2016 it is mandatory to fix stoppages for the buses and reserve space for bus parking. However, at present these rules are being violated in many cities. In Nagpur, the RTO in November 2018 has issued a notification for the same but it was effective in municipal corporation limits. Taking note of the notification, the HC opined that such arrangement must be made all over the state. Adv Firdos Midar is the amicus curie in this case.
For the proper implementation of rules, 137 schools in city were listed as respondents. In the beginning the school administrations did not respond to the HC but when court took strict stand they bowed and appeared before the court. The school administrations have assured the court that they would follow the rules.
