The peak period of monsoon is already here, but the city has not noticed a greater change in its summer patterns. The lakes are getting dried up and till now the rainfall has just hit twice in the month of July. Kanhan River is the only one river from where proper supply of water for the Nagpurians to use. On the other hand Totladoh and Navegaon dams are said to be dried up totally informed the sources.
During the recent meeting of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) officials had discussed the issue of scarcity of the water and as an outcome the water supplied to the city was reduced by many liters to save water for future crisis.
It was decided that the water is to be regulated on alternate days starting from today, Wednesday, July 17.
This brought uproar among the citizens of Nagpur as this kind of critical situation of water scarcity has never arrived in the city. Besides turning down the taps the NMC has also stopped the supply through the tankers in the entire city.
Rohit Rotke a police officer on the NMC’s new plan said, “The decision made by the officials is totally right as I have seen many people wasting water and neglecting the water overflow from the tanks. It will be difficult to serve the increasing population as it will only worsen the case of the water scarcity. Therefore people should take proper measures to save water to avoid some major water issues in near future.â€
Unlike Rotke a Businessman Pranav Daine stated, “the government is selling resources and the whole agenda behind the alternate day supply of water seems to be a beginning of a scam. He also says, every time the common man has to suffer by the decisions of NMC officials and they always seem to take irresponsible decisionsâ€.
