ÂÂNagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL) in collaboration with Agence Française de Development (AFD) and the European Union will be organizing a two days training workshop on “Sustainable and Low Carbon Urban Mobility as a part of the ‘Mobilize Your City’ (MYC) initiative on July 22 and 23, 2019. Mayor Nanda Jichkar will inaugurate the workshop on July 22, 2019, at 10 am at Hotel Tuli Imperial, Central Bazar Road, Ramdaspeth, Nagpur.
Mobilize Your City (MYC) Program is a part of an international initiative to support the governments at both national and local levels in transformational actions to achieve sustainable urban mobility. The European Union has made available grant financing to support the Program. In India, the Program is managed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and is focused on supporting three pilot cities, Nagpur, Kochi, and Ahmedabad.
The objective is to help reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions by implementing Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP). In Nagpur, the implementation and follow up of this Program is being undertaken by the Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL). The Program would support studies on prioritized projects and build technical capacity among urban local bodies and other stakeholders.
In an attempt to support sustainable urban mobility plans in the city, one of the specific tasks of the Program is to build capacity among city officials to acquire holistic skills needed to deal with complex urban transport issues. Â International Experts from UMTC Ajay Kumar, S Ramakrishnan, and Abhijit Lokare will address the workshop on important issues.
The training workshop will address a range of issues confronting urban mobility, from understanding current travel patterns and future trends to policy and institutional requirements, and the role of non-motorized transport. The workshop discussions will encourage participants to examine alternative paradigms for attaining sustainable mobility. Dr Ramnath Sonawane, Chief Executive Officer of NSSCDCL has appealed all stakeholders to participate in the training workshop.
The officers of NSSCDCL, Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Nagpur Improvement Trust, Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited, Public Works Department, Regional Transport Office, Transport Department, Traffic Police, and other departments will participate in the workshop. The workshop will conclude on July 23 at 5 pm.
